Free Performance Check

Every visit starts with a comprehensive check-up, free of charge. It tells us — and you — the true condition of your transmission before anyone talks about repairs.

  • Fluid inspection — level, color and condition
  • Road test — shifts, slippage and noises under real driving
  • Lift inspection — leaks, mounts and linkage from underneath
  • Pan examination — the debris in the pan tells the story inside

If the check turns something up, we explain it in plain English with a written estimate. If it doesn’t, we tell you that too.

Diagnostics

Computer Diagnostic Services

Modern transmissions are computer-controlled — a check engine light can mean anything from a $20 sensor to real trouble. We read what the car is actually saying before touching a wrench.

  • Check engine & transmission warning light diagnosis
  • Sensor faults — pressure, oxygen and temperature sensors
  • Solenoid and shift-control problems
  • Live data road testing, not just code pulling

A proper diagnosis is the difference between fixing the problem and replacing parts until it goes away. We do the former.

Repair

Transmission Repair

Not every problem needs a rebuild. Plenty of repairs — adjustments, seals, solenoids, linkage — can be done quickly without removing the transmission at all.

Watch for the early signs:

  • Dashboard warning lights
  • Slipping gears or rough, delayed shifting
  • Grinding, whirring or clunking noises
  • Unusually fast tire wear

We only do the repairs that are needed, we explain what was wrong and how the fix addresses it — and we service both automatics and standards.

Rebuilds

Transmission Rebuild

When a transmission is beyond simple repair, a quality rebuild is the smart alternative to a costly replacement. After more than fifty years, our rebuilds have a reputation for going the distance.

  • Transmission examined, removed and fully disassembled
  • Every part inspected individually and cleaned thoroughly
  • Worn components replaced, reassembled to factory standards
  • Bench-tested, installed and road-tested before delivery

Every rebuild is covered by our nationwide warranty — see the guarantee below.

Maintenance

Maintenance & Tune-Up

A little maintenance saves thousands in avoidable repairs. Fluid breaks down, filters clog, adjustments drift — and by the time you feel it, damage is already being done.

  • Transmission fluid service
  • Filter exchange
  • Fluid & filter flush
  • Band, throttle & linkage adjustment

Most shops jump straight to replacing transmissions. We’d rather keep yours healthy — smaller repairs, honest options, all work guaranteed.

Driveline

Driveline Repair

The driveline is everything that moves the wheels besides the engine and transmission — axles, joints, differentials, bearings. Its problems feel a lot like transmission problems, so it pays to have one shop that knows both.

Bring it in if you notice:

  • Shaking or shuddering on acceleration — a loose joint or bad bearing
  • Whirring on deceleration — pinion bearing trouble
  • Rumbling above 20 mph — worn carrier bearings
  • Clunking on start-up or shifts — a failing U-joint

2WD, 4WD or AWD — we repair them all.

Classics

Classic Car Transmissions

Vintage transmissions are a different craft — no plug-in diagnostics, parts that haven’t been made in decades, and owners who rightfully expect perfection. We’ve been working on these cars since they were new.

  • Vintage manuals & early automatics
  • Muscle-car era rebuilds — Mopar, GM, Ford
  • Numbers-matching, correct-to-original work
  • Careful, insured handling from arrival to delivery

Straight Answers

Common questions.

My check engine light is on — is it the transmission?

Not necessarily. A check engine light can be triggered by dozens of things — oxygen sensors, temperature sensors, pressure sensors — and many of them are inexpensive fixes. The only way to know is a proper diagnosis, which is exactly what our free performance check is for. Don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either.

How do I know if my clutch is going bad?

The classic signs: gear slippage under acceleration, a spongy or sticking pedal, a burning smell, or difficulty getting into gear. A clutch wears out eventually on every manual — the mistake is waiting. The longer a worn clutch is driven, the more damage it does to everything around it, and the bigger the bill gets.

Repair, rebuild or replace — how do you decide?

In that order. If an adjustment or minor repair solves it, that’s what we recommend — many fixes don’t even require removing the transmission. If the damage inside is extensive, a rebuild restores it to factory standards for far less than a replacement. Replacement is the last resort, and honestly, it’s rarely necessary.

How often should transmission fluid be serviced?

It depends on the vehicle and how you drive it — towing, stop-and-go traffic, and hard driving all shorten the interval. As a rule of thumb, have the fluid checked with every oil change and serviced roughly every 30,000–60,000 miles. When you come in, we’ll show you the fluid condition and tell you honestly how often yours needs it.

What does a rebuild cost compared to a new transmission?

A quality rebuild typically runs a fraction of the cost of a replacement unit — and because every wear component is replaced and the rest is restored to spec, a good rebuild lasts. We give you a written estimate up front, financing is available, and there’s a $100-off rebuild coupon on our specials page.
